The Modigliani Initiative

Independent research organization dedicated to supporting the legacy of artist Amedeo Modigliani, by maintaining a state-of-the-art database, conducting provenance research and promoting scholarly analysis of his works. 

The organization’s founders approached us as they embarked on the launch of their non-profit, created to lead and engage the arts community in the exploration and dissemination of all knowledge related to Modigliani. Our scope of work included the creation of a brand identity and website, as well as asset design.

We conducted stakeholder interviews with the organization’s founders, both of whom are highly credentialed art scholars and researchers; and we developed a Brand DNA that articulated the organization’s mission, values, strategy and vision for the future. This work enabled us to position TMI as a collaborative platform for examining and documenting the life of the artist, his work, and his artistic milieu. The logo mark we designed was a nod to the artist’s unique signature, coupled with his signature style of portraying eyes of his portrait models. We designed the website to serve as a centralized and publicly accessible resource, reflecting TMI’s mission, and we designed business cards and a digital newsletter template to align all materials with the new brand.
